Who writes this, and why.

Real Medellín is the Aburrá Valley desk of an independent Real[City] network — eight Latin American capitals, one editorial voice, no sponsored content, no hotel comps.

The writer.

An expat living in Medellín. Long-term — years, not months. The honest qualification here isn't an MFA or a press credential; it's that I've been wrong about this city enough times to know what I don't know, and I've watched enough visitors make the same three mistakes to want to head them off.

Original plan was to visit every city in this network before writing about it. That plan ended when my bags, passport, and laptop left a hostel lobby without me in a city I'd rather not name. So I stopped pretending to be a traveloguer and started writing what I actually am: an analyst who lives down here and reads the region closely.

What this site is.

A standing field brief on Medellín, updated when the ground shifts. Not a top-10 list, not a "my favorite coffee shop" blog, not a content-farm output dressed in stock photography. The homepage is the brief. The Briefing is where longer dispatches go when they're worth the space.

What this site isn't.

  • Not sponsored. No hotel, restaurant, tour operator, or brand has ever paid for placement here. If I recommend a neighborhood, it's because I'd send a friend there.
  • Not AI slop. A human wrote every sentence. Generative tools are useful in publishing but they don't do the work of noticing what actually changed on a block between January and March.
  • Not a travelogue. You won't read about my breakfast, my hostel, or the time I got lost. This is a brief, not a diary.
  • Not comprehensive. Eight million things to do in Medellín — this site covers where to sleep and what to know. That's the scope. If you want a museum list, other sites do it better.

How the map works.

The Stay22 embeds on the homepage aggregate live inventory from Airbnb, Booking, Vrbo, and Hotels.com. If you book through them, this site earns a small commission at no extra cost to you — that's how the lights stay on. It doesn't affect which neighborhoods get recommended. The five on the homepage are the five I'd list to a friend texting from the airport, regardless of whether there was an affiliate link attached.
